“S.O.S. Adriatic” calls on OMV to withdraw from signing a contract that will harm the Adriatic

Activists of the Coalition S.O.S. Adriatic, together with their Austrian partners Global2000, today held a protest performance and a press conference outside of the headquarters of the oil company OMV in Vienna. Austrian OMV, as part of a consortium with the American oil company Matrathon Oil received a preliminary permit for the biggest number of exploration fields in the Adriatic. Overall, these include seven fields in the middle and southern Adriatic, some of which are in immediate vicinity of the Kornati National Park, Nature Park Lastovo Islands, Mljet National Park and Dubrovnik. Protest against the announced oil and gas exploration in Budva

The Coalition S.O.S. Adriatic joined a protest against the announced oil and gas exploration in the Adriatic Sea in Budva on Tuesday 10th March. The protest was organised by our colleagues at Green Home. The reason for the protest was the Adriatic summit on oil and gas, which was held on that day in Budva, and which aimed to examine the current opportunities and challenges in exploitation of oil and gas in the Adriatic region. S.O.S. Adriatic: We request the Government to cancel the contract signing with concessionaires

The associations gathered in the coalition 'SOS Adriatic' welcome the request from the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for the implementation of cross-border consultation on Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). Also we posses information that the Italian Government had already sent the same request. Transboundary consultations in these proceedings are binding for a number of years and have become a common practice among the Member States of the European Union.
