Regional declaration: NO OIL – STOP SEA DRILLING IN THE ADRIATIC

*A common commitment for the future of the Adriatic Sea* On June 20th 2015, a regional collaboration against oil drilling in the Adriatic Sea was launched in the town of Rovinj in Croatia. There are 29 macro areas, for a total of 36.823 km2, to be investigated for oil and gas drilling in the Croatian Adriatic Sea, in addition to already existing 9 platforms for gas extraction. On the Italian side, the areas intended for hydrocarbons exploration amount to 12.000 km2, with 6 oil platforms already active. S.O.S. Adriatic: We request the Government to cancel the contract signing with concessionaires

The associations gathered in the coalition 'SOS Adriatic' welcome the request from the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for the implementation of cross-border consultation on Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). Also we posses information that the Italian Government had already sent the same request. Transboundary consultations in these proceedings are binding for a number of years and have become a common practice among the Member States of the European Union.
